Creative Industry Kosice Urban Lab Workshop 2
About the event
In September 2019, CIKE organised a second Urban Lab workshop which welcomed 65 lively participants to a 6-hour long interactive session. People of the Creative City, brought together 100+ representatives of the Košice cultural scene. Including, a representative of the municipality, a filmmaker, the owner of a travel agency, a community worker from Luník IX, a swing musician, or a landscape architect could all find themselves sitting at one table.
The day-long programme included debates with:
Michal Hladky – Director of Creative Industry Kosice & Director of European City of Culture Kosice 2013
Maria Vircikova – AI/XR Innovator | CEO Matsuko | European Tech Woman 2020
Pavla Lukesova – Head of Policy and Development Section at Culture Department at Statutory city of Brno
Marcel Giboda – Vice Mayor of Kosice
The facilitators utilised the ‘Things from the Future’ methodology which encouraged participation during the workshop. The Thing From The Future is an award-winning imagination game that challenges players to collaboratively and competitively describe objects from a range of alternative futures.
Outcomes
The task was clear – to lay the foundations for a cultural strategy for the city of Košice, which would become part of a new master plan for economic and social development. Thanks to the event, several activities were identified that could contribute to the development of the city’s cultural infrastructure. The practical proposals addressed the focus of cultural and creative institutions in Košice, the simplification of administrative processes and their financing, but also the need to become more accessible to the citizens, including disadvantaged groups. The workshop also focused on research, education, and cross-sectoral cooperation.
